Our feet have hardly touched the floor this month.
It’s the same with a lot of people and has a lot do to with school-term mentality – since childhood, we’ve had September ingrained as a time of new starts.
New stationery! New school bags! New business and new investment!
Which is why we relish our Augusts. For many industries, this can be a quiet time of year – but that quieter time is just as essential as the busy months.
We took our own business advice, in a nutshell! And guess what – it works.
Alongside the essential planning, the professional comments and feedback from our (esteemed ho, ho) colleagues are now being put to use in a range of ways, to offer even more to our long-standing clients, to improve our existing products even further and to really focus on our new business goals. We’re taking the results with us this month to Malaysia, USA, China, Dubai, Portugal, France and across the UK.
Quiet periods at work give us time to revisit, reflect and plan. For us, they offer rare opportunities to all be together as a team, as opposed to flying off to different corners of the world to work with our clients!
So these quieter times should be maximised. We took our office dog Dave with us on walks, enjoyed the Kendal countryside and embraced the last of the summer with some outside meetings. We looked at the events we had managed, the teams we had supported and the businesses we had advised, over the past 11 months. We looked at the results we had delivered and the insights they had given us, to help hone our offerings even further.
When your business has a regular or even an unexpected period of downtime – embrace it. All organisations need planning and reflection. This will be yours.
Bring on October!
